Queen, A Night At The Opera

Helped no doubt by having onetime student of Ealing Art College, Freddie Mercury, in their ranks, Queen designed their own crest. The iconic emblem, forever associated with the band, incorporated each member’s zodiac sign: two lions (drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon are Leos), two winged maidens (Mercury was a Virgo) and a crab (guitarist Brian May is a Cancer). Initially given a modestly sized black-and-white reproduction on the rear sleeve of their debut album, a suitably regal full-colour version was splashed all over the front cover for ‘A Night At The Opera’. The album included their enduring six-minute epic, Bohemian Rhapsody, proclaiming that Queen had arrived.
