The Jam, In The City

£60.00

Fronted by The Modfather himself, Paul Weller, The Jam were a unique three-piece that arrived fully formed in 1977’s Summer Of Hate; bursting with raucous energy fuelled by youthful dissatisfaction, they had one foot in the punk scene. Designed by Bill Smith, In The City’s stark monochrome album cover featuring the band’s name spray-painted above their portrait aligned the group with Britain’s punk upstarts, but their sharp attire stood apart from the mohawk hairdos and safety-pin accessories of their contemporaries. The Jam spearheaded the mod revival of the late 70’s and early 80’s, with Weller’s innate knack for writing catchy songs with satirical bite hearkening back to original 60’s mod heroes such as The Who’s Pete Townsend and The Kinks’ Ray Davies.
