The Rolling Stones, Black And Blue

Coming after the unparalleled run of albums that included Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main St, and before their disco-punk-blues masterpiece Some Girls, Black And Blue saw The Rolling Stones in something of a transitional period. The artwork, too, stands out for its low-concept approach. A simple band shot, taken on a beach at Sanibel Island, Florida, by Japanese photographer Hiro, the sleeve sees Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman framed in close up, Richards seemingly leaning in to whisper something sinister in Jagger’s ear.
